SmartShape started in 1989 with a core strength of creative design and innovative thinking.  Our clients came to rely on us for consistently generating fresh ideas and patentable intellectual property.

As our reputation for innovative design grew, so did the breadth and scope of our expertise.  In addition to highly creative industrial designers, our firm has grown to include business strategists, engineers with advanced degrees, and experts in tooling and manufacturing.  And our multidisciplinary expertise now spans the globe with offices, staff, and well established operations in Shanghai/Suzhou and Shenzhen China.  Recognizing early that we operate in a global economy, we began developing our operations in China over 20 years ago.  This positions us to offer uncommon advantages to our clients.

In early 2010, we moved into our new 10,000 square foot studio in downtown Cleveland, just a few blocks from the location of the new Cleveland Medical Mart and Convention Center.  We’re in the heart of one of the leading biomedical, health-care and technology regions in the nation, so it’s not surprising that the medical industry has grown to be the largest segment of SmartShape’s business.  As Cleveland continues to grow as a center for biomedical research and development, we look forward to growing and serving this important industry.
